OH, I ate way too much again!!

We had a great thanksgiving. Tonya and Jimmy, with Blake and Evan, our grandchildren, were here, along with our good friend Larry. Turkey, dressing, potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry, etc, all accompanied by Michigan wine, thanks to Larry, the # 1 wine guy I know. You all know that menu. Then after everyone left for home, and work in Larry's case, we began the "clean up". We decided to wash the dishes again this year, as we often contemplate just throwing EVERYTHING away! Put the good china away for another couple of weeks, when it gets it's 2nd debut of the year, Christmas Dinner. Hey, being the good china is a pretty easy job, you only have to work a couple times a year! I may consider that for a vocation someday. Well, back to the grind again tomorrow.

From Chief Matt Harshberger, City of Ypsilanti Police Department

I'm holding a special meeting of all NAs and BAs on Monday night (Nov. 20th) at 7 p.m. to discuss the jail overcrowding problem, the jail expansion proposal approved by the county board last night, out-boarding of prisoners at the jail and crime prevention strategies to help deter/prevent the recent spike in property crimes that has occurred in and around the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods. As you are key representatives of your associations, I would greatly appreciate your attendance and assistance providing valuable insight, input and community support to resolve the many problems that we face. Also, please invite all of your neighbors/association residents as I want to involve as many people as possible in the meeting to get questions answered with accurate information and widespread support generated for solutions to the problems. Thank you.

The meeting will be held on Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center at Recreation Park on Congress St.

Holiday ornament benefits good cause
A little piece of Ypsilanti on your Christmas tree this year can help a good cause if you buy the fourth edition of the Ypsilanti Holiday Homes Tour's commemorative ornament.
This year's ornament features a miniature replica of the old Ypsilanti High School on Cross Street. Proceeds go to Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels. The ornaments cost $27 and are available during both the Candlelight Homes Tour on Dec. 2 and the regular Holiday Homes Tour on Dec. 3. Past ornaments in the series include the Water Tower, Historic Depot Town and the Freighthouse and will also be available for purchase on both tours.
Mary Beth Strassel, co-owner of Quinn's Essentials in Depot Town, orders the Christmas tree decorations, which can also be bought at the store, from Hestia Products in Marblehead, Mass.
In addition to the ornaments, other Ypsilanti collectibles will be available for purchase on the tours, including the second edition of the Ypsilanti commemorative cotton throw. Tim Kellman and graphic designer Joe Komazz incorporated seven local landmarks into the design. The blanket sold out of its first production run after the Heritage Festival and costs $60.
For more information on the tours, call Meals on Wheels Executive Director Ann Harris at 734-487-9669.
